Legend meets The Giver in the harrowing second installment of The New World Series by Jennifer Wilson.
New World Ashes Jennifer Wilson Books
New World Ashes is a dark and compelling sequel to New world Rising. I loved New World Rising so I guess it's needless to say I was excited to read this book. I was definitely not disappointed. New World Ashes starts right, where New World Rising left off and it focuses on Phoenix's experiences inside the Sanctuary.SPOILER ALERT!
I love dark books so I was beyond thrilled to read about Phoenix's time in captivity. I kept wondering how she was going to survive and whether Mouse and Triven would come back for her. I was also constantly wondering what Phoenix's grandfather would decide to put her through next. The discovery that Phoenix had grown up in military training definitely explained a lot. To be honest, before I learned about Phoenix's past I never even stopped to think about how she was able to survive so well in Tartarus. It was only when I read about her training that I realized she really was oddly skilled at surviving among the tribes. Phoenix went through some tough times in this book and I liked it that she didn't recover immediately after her escape. I felt like it made sense for her to suffer from post-traumatic stress and I was happy the author took that into consideration.
I liked it that we got to know the backstories of many different characters in this book. Ryker, who is a pretty interesting character, emerged from Phoenix's past and we finally got to know why Mouse can't speak. Mouse's brother is quite awful. He's definitely not going to get any brother-of-the-year awards any time soon. I don't understand how he could treat his sister or any of the other kids like that. I don't think he feels any remorse at all. All he seems to care about is power and his position in Fandrin's inner circle. I bet we'll see him in the next book fighting aside Fandrin. Oh, and I definitely want to know what happened to Ryker. What did Fandrin do to him? Did he know Ryker was working for the rebels or was he just suspecting him?
I would definitely recommend this series to everyone who loves dystopian stories. If you loved New World Rising, you need to read this too! You will not be disappointed. I know I wasn't and I can't wait to read New World Inferno when it comes out later this year. Yes, if you didn't know, New World Inferno is coming out this fall and it's now available for preorder. Yay!

New World Ashes Jennifer Wilson Books Reviews
It’s a really good book, and I will recommend it over and over again to everyone! It still holds on to that strong female protagonist, but as every protagonist she met the “wall” in this book and I have no doubt she’ll rise from this. She shows more of her maternal sides in this book and I loved that, it kind of showed this emotional side about her that we haven’t seen much of yet. I also love the “new” villain, he’s so scary.
If you liked the Hunger Games then you will like this trilogy. I am currently reading the 2nd book currently and just about done. It was hard for me to put the first one down. Teenage girl, dystopian society and a bunch of crazy tribes running an abandoned city and her need to survive while finding allies.
I new I couldn't finish the first book and not want this one. That's why I bought this before I even finished the first one. This book must be read after reading the first in it's series, you won't be disappointed!
This continues right where the other leaves off!
Phoenix is B.A.!! She definitely gets to show it in this book. This story gets more intense and I love the world that Jennifer creates. I feel like it's actually multiple worlds!
I'd give you more details but I'm afraid I would give too much away.
Read this series!
Wow. I have literally just finished Ashes and I don't even know what to say.
I read this book series so that I could meet another author at Bookcon this year. But this was not the average book I was expecting to read- this is probably one of my favorite ongoing series now!
Although there are a number of grammar/spelling mistakes that I noticed, the story was good enough that I honestly didn't care. Everyone's human and everyone makes mistakes so who cares in the end?
Phoenix's story is one that is a lot more unique than it seems. At first it seems to be a decent YA dystopia, but by the end of Ashes it is so much more. There were no characters that I didn't like for how they were written, which is something that often ruins books for me.
I am extremely excited to meet Jennifer Wilson and if I get an arc of Inferno i will be sure to review it asap!
This story picks up right where we left off with the first book, new world rising, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The first half of the book deals with Prea, or Pheonix, and her experiences being captured and tortured by the Minister of the Sanctuary. It's intense and slightly horrifying and overall shows us how much of a badass Prea is. She showed us what she is really capable of and I liked it.
Jennifer Wilson has done it again! She managed to decimate my heart, then piece it back together again. ASHES picks up where RISING left off, with our scrappy heroine Phoenix in the clutches of The Sanctuary. In order to survive and protect those she loves, she must endure physical and psychological torture at the hands of The Minister. In the pages of ASHES, Wilson takes us on a harrowing journey through her unique dystopian universe. We see it all through the eyes of a young woman who has been pushed to the very edge and is clinging to sanity by her fingernails. We feel everything she feels. Hate. Love. Fear. Rage. Desire. Loneliness. Hope. Phoenix is the epitome of humanity. She is everything one could want in a hero. I cannot wait to dive back into her story in INFERNO. Thank you, Jennifer, for a dizzyingly beautiful and utterly devastating book!
This book had so much growth from the first book, it’s amazing! (Not saying the first wasn’t amazing but NWA, ugh it was really awesome.)
I really loved how Phoenix’s character development really blossomed more, and I can’t wait to see more of her grow in the third installment.
The elegance of the descriptions were so smooth and just all around clearly visual.
I am ROOTING for Phoenix & Triven but I am starting to SHIP her and Ryker.
I can’t wait to see how this all comes to a close!
Amazing work by Jennifer!!!
